DMV

Each state has an agency typically termed DMV or DPS (Department of Motor Vehicles or Department of Public Safety) which, among other things, oversees the issuance of drivers licenses.

The DMV in most states is responsible for driver license examinations and the issuance of learner's permits, drivers licenses, and non-driver identification cards.

In addition, the DMV maintains driving records of all convictions, car accidents, suspensions, and revocations. The DMV conducts medical evaluations for medical and visual problems that must be clarified before drivers licenses can be issued.
